Is this the spiciest chicken mandhi in Kozhikode? Kozhikode is home to numerous Mandhi restaurants, each offering its own interpretation of this popular Arabian dish. While most restaurants focus on mildly spiced rice served with slow-cooked chicken, Mahdi Kuzhimandhi Restaurant has created something quite different. The restaurant has become known for its Chicken Pollichathu Kuzhi Mandhi, where the chicken is coated in a rich Kerala Arabian Fusion-style masala before being served alongside traditional Kuzhi Mandhi rice. Many local food lovers even describe it as one of the spiciest chicken mandhi in Kozhikode.
We visited Mahdi Kuzhimandhi in June 2026 to experience this unique preparation for ourselves. Apart from their Traditional Kuzhi Mandhi and Al Faham Kuzhi Mandhi, the restaurant’s signature Chicken Pollichathu Kuzhi Mandhi has attracted considerable attention among spice lovers looking for a Kerala-style twist on the classic Arabian favourite.
Why is Mahdi Known for Serving One of the Spiciest Chicken Mandhi in Kozhikode?
The highlight of Mahdi Kuzhimandhi is undoubtedly its Chicken Pollichathu Kuzhi Mandhi. Unlike a traditional Kuzhi Mandhi, where the chicken is lightly seasoned before slow cooking over a flat tawa. The chicken here is first marinated in a bold blend of Kerala spices and then prepared as Chicken Pollichathu before being paired with fragrant Kuzhi Mandhi rice.
During our visit, we had the opportunity to watch both the Chicken Pollichathu and Beef Pollichathu being prepared before they reached our table. Watching the cooking process made the experience even more enjoyable, as it showcased the attention given to building layers of flavour before serving the dish.
The first thing we noticed while tasting the Chicken Pollichathu Kuzhi Mandhi was its excellent flavour. The spices were aromatic, high on the spicy note, and were much more flavourful than the usual bland kuzhi mandhi. Please note that this is not for those who prefer mild flavours. This isn’t the mild Arabian Mandhi that most people are familiar with. Instead, Mahdi serves a bold Kerala Arabian fusion-style interpretation with a noticeably fiery character. If you’re searching for one of the spiciest chicken mandhi in Kozhikode, this signature preparation certainly deserves your attention.
We also tried the Beef Pollichathu, which followed the same flavour profile with generous use of Kerala spices. Both preparations were enjoyable, but the defining characteristic of the meal remained the spice level. What impressed us most was that the restaurant wasn’t simply trying to recreate a traditional Arabian Mandhi. Instead, it has developed its own identity by combining the comforting flavours of Kuzhi Mandhi with the bold spice profile that Kerala food lovers enjoy. If you are a mild flavor lover, Mahdhi also serves the usual Arabian-style Mandhi.

Food N Travel Tip: If you’re trying the Chicken Pollichathu Kuzhi Mandhi for the first time, be prepared for a much higher spice level than a traditional Arabian Kuzhi Mandhi.
