2. Watch Traditional Coracle Fishing at Mallar Kulam
One of the most unique experiences during our trip was visiting Mallar Kulam. This place came into our list by chance. We were returning from Sambavar Vadakarai when we spotted a few fishermen in Mallar Kulam, compelling us to stop by.
This scenic pond is known for traditional coracle boat fishing. Watching local fishermen navigate these circular boats reminded us how many traditional livelihoods continue to survive in rural Tamil Nadu.
3. Enjoy Tea and Snacks at Murukannante Tea Shop

For lunch, we stopped at Aswathy Hotel and Tea Shop in Mekkarai.
Simple Kerala-style meals, fish curry, and omelette made for a satisfying meal before continuing our exploration. Sometimes the most memorable food experiences come from small local establishments rather than famous restaurants.
12. Visit Thirumalai Murugan Temple
Located on a hilltop, Thirumalai Murugan Temple offers both spiritual significance and spectacular views.
The temple provides panoramic views of the surrounding Western Ghats and is one of the most peaceful locations we visited during the trip.
13. Visit Thenkasi Kasi Viswanathar Temple
Often referred to as the “South Kashi,” this temple is one of Thenkasi’s most iconic landmarks.

14. End Your Trip with Tirunelveli Halwa
Before leaving Thenkasi, we stopped at Sree Krishna Vilas Halwa Shop.
No trip to this region feels complete without tasting authentic Tirunelveli Halwa. The soft texture and rich flavour make it a perfect souvenir to take home.
