Meeru Island Maldives – Is This How Paradise Really Feels?

Is Meeru Island Maldives really as beautiful as people say? Join us as we experience crystal-clear lagoons, a relaxing beach villa, snorkelling adventures, and unforgettable family moments on one of the Maldives' most loved resort islands.

We packed our bags, telling our daughters that we were flying to Bengaluru. The surprise was supposed to last until we reached our destination, but things didn’t go exactly as planned. At the immigration counter in Cochin International Airport, the kids quickly realised we weren’t travelling to Bengaluru at all—we were flying to the Maldives! Once the surprise was out, their excitement knew no bounds, and ours wasn’t any different.

This was our first overseas family vacation after the world slowly recovered from the Covid pandemic. After years of staying close to home, the thought of spending a few days on a tropical island surrounded by turquoise waters and white sandy beaches felt almost unreal. Our destination was Meeru Island Maldives, one of the most beautiful resort islands in the Maldives, and from the moment we arrived, it felt like we had stepped into a completely different world.

Our Vlog at Meeru Island Maldives

Our Journey to Meeru Island Maldives

After landing at Velana International Airport in Malé, our adventure was only beginning. Unlike many resorts that require a seaplane transfer, Meeru Island Maldives is easily accessible by a speedboat. The journey takes about an hour, but it never feels long.

As the boat moved away from the busy harbour, the deep blue ocean gradually transformed into stunning shades of turquoise. Small islands appeared one after another, each surrounded by crystal-clear lagoons that looked almost unreal. Every minute of the journey built our excitement, and by the time Meeru Island came into view, we knew this trip would be something special.

The first sight of Meeru Island Maldives was unforgettable. Powdery white beaches, lush tropical greenery, swaying coconut palms, and the endless blue waters of the Indian Ocean welcomed us to what many people imagine when they dream about the Maldives.

A Paradise Made for Families

Although the Maldives is often promoted as a honeymoon destination, our experience at Meeru Island Maldives proved that it is equally wonderful for families.

Our stay was in a beautiful Beach Villa, just a few steps away from the shoreline. Every morning began with the soothing sound of waves instead of traffic, and every evening ended with spectacular sunsets over the ocean.

The biggest winners of this holiday were undoubtedly our daughters. They spent hours building sandcastles, running barefoot along the beach, collecting seashells, and splashing in the warm lagoon. There was no need for elaborate entertainment—the island itself became their playground.

Watching them enjoy nature in its purest form reminded us that the simplest experiences often become the most cherished memories.

More Than Just Beautiful Beaches

One thing that impressed us about Meeru Island Maldives was how beautifully the island has been maintained. Walking paths shaded by tropical trees connected every part of the resort, making it a pleasure to explore on foot.

The island offered plenty of quiet corners where we could simply sit and admire the changing colours of the sea. Breakfast overlooking the beach became one of our favourite rituals. Fresh tropical fruits, delicious food, and uninterrupted ocean views made every morning feel special.

As we wandered around the island, we also came across an interesting whale skeleton display, adding an unexpected touch to our exploration. Every walk revealed something new, making us appreciate the island beyond its famous beaches.

Our First Snorkelling Experience at Meeru Island Maldives

One of the highlights of our stay at Meeru Island Maldives was our snorkelling adventure.

A small boat took us about ten minutes away from the island to a designated snorkelling location. Before entering the water, the instructors patiently explained the safety procedures, making even beginners feel comfortable.

Snorkelling equipment was available for rent at the resort. At the time of our visit, renting both the mask and flippers cost around USD 9, while a mask alone was available for USD 6.

As soon as we entered the water, we understood why snorkelling is considered one of the must-do experiences in the Maldives. Even though the visibility wasn’t perfect that day, the crystal-clear sea offered a fascinating glimpse into the underwater world. Colourful fish moved gracefully around the coral formations, creating an experience that felt completely different from anything we had tried before.

Whether you’re an experienced swimmer or a first-time snorkeller, this is an activity we would highly recommend when visiting Meeru Island Maldives.

The Little Moments That Made the Difference

Luxury isn’t always about extravagant villas or lavish facilities. Sometimes, it’s found in the little moments that quietly stay with you.

Watching our daughters laugh as gentle waves chased them across the beach.

Walking barefoot through soft white sand without worrying about time.

Sitting together as a family while the sky slowly turned shades of orange and pink during sunset.

Listening to nothing but the sound of the ocean.

Those simple experiences became the true highlights of our stay at Meeru Island Maldives.

Is Meeru Island Maldives Only for Honeymooners?

When most people think of the Maldives, they imagine romantic dinners on the beach, overwater villas, and couples celebrating their honeymoon. While Meeru Island Maldives certainly offers all of that, our experience showed us another side of the island.

Travelling with our daughters completely changed the way we experienced Meeru. The shallow lagoon became their playground, the long stretches of soft white sand kept them entertained for hours, and simple moments like collecting seashells, watching colourful fish near the shore, and enjoying the sunset together became some of the most memorable parts of our trip.

The resort also has spacious accommodation options, multiple restaurants, recreational activities, and plenty of open spaces where families can relax without feeling confined. Couples looking for privacy will still find romantic corners across the island, while families can enjoy the same natural beauty at a slower, more relaxed pace.

For us, Meeru Island Maldives proved that the Maldives isn’t just a honeymoon destination—it can also be an unforgettable family destination.

As the sun slowly disappeared into the Indian Ocean, our daughters continued playing on the white sandy beach, completely lost in their own little world. Watching them laugh, run, and enjoy every moment reminded us that paradise isn’t defined by luxury alone. It’s the feeling of being together, surrounded by nature, with nowhere else you would rather be. For us, Meeru Island Maldives wasn’t just another beautiful resort—it was a collection of moments that will stay with our family forever.
