Wayanad has no shortage of beautiful resorts, but very few offer the feeling of actually living inside a forest. While many properties are located close to plantations or along the roadside, some are hidden much deeper, where reaching the destination itself becomes part of the adventure. If you’re searching for a genuine forest stay in Wayanad, this experience may be exactly what you’re looking for.
After completing a couple of food vlogs in Kozhikode, we wanted to slow down and spend a day surrounded by nature. It was our friend Fabin who suggested Jungle Park Resort, having come across it through social media. Without much planning, we decided to drive towards Wayanad, not fully realizing that the journey to the resort would become one of the highlights of our stay.

The Adventure Begins Before You Reach the Resort
Unlike most resorts where you simply drive up to the reception, reaching Jungle Park Resort is an experience in itself. Guests leave their vehicles at the resort’s designated parking area near Old Vythiri, where a jeep is arranged for the final stretch of the journey.

The ride through the forest lasted almost 45 minutes, taking us along rugged trails surrounded by dense greenery, streams, and towering trees. As we moved deeper into the forest, mobile signals gradually disappeared and the sounds of traffic gave way to birds, insects, and the gentle rustle of the forest. It was at that moment that we truly felt our forest stay in Wayanad had begun.
Surrounded by Rain, Forest, and Silence
By the time we reached the resort, a light drizzle had settled over the forest. Thick greenery surrounded the property from every direction, creating an atmosphere that immediately slowed us down. After checking into our room and enjoying a hot cup of tea, we spent the evening simply walking around the resort.

With only eight luxury rooms, Jungle Park Resort feels intimate rather than crowded. A peaceful waterbody in front of the property reflects the surrounding trees, while the constant sound of birds and flowing water creates a calm that’s difficult to find in city life. Rather than filling the property with unnecessary activities, the resort allows nature itself to become the main attraction.
A Night Safari Under the Wayanad Sky
After dinner, we joined the resort’s optional night jeep safari. Before setting off, the staff explained that wildlife sightings are never guaranteed—a refreshing honesty that reflected their respect for nature. They encouraged us to enjoy the experience of being in the forest rather than expecting dramatic encounters.

Although we didn’t come across elephants or other large mammals, we were fortunate enough to spot a graceful pair of Sambar deer moving quietly through the forest. One of the safari’s most memorable moments came when we stopped at an open viewpoint overlooking the distant lights of Kozhikode, twinkling far below from the mountains of Wayanad. Watching a city glow from deep inside a rainforest was an experience we won’t easily forget.
A Morning Walk That Became a Wildlife Lesson
The following morning reminded us why staying inside a forest is so different from simply visiting one.
As we enjoyed our morning tea in the sit-out, our attention was drawn to what we thought was a harmless green snake resting nearby. When our naturalist guide Manish arrived, he smiled and gently corrected us. It wasn’t a green vine snake at all—it was a Malabar Pit Viper, a beautifully camouflaged venomous snake commonly found in the Western Ghats.

The discovery left some of us excited and a little nervous at the same time, but it also became an unexpected lesson about the incredible biodiversity of Wayanad. Later, during our guided nature walk with Manish, we learned about native plants, listened to birds hidden among the trees, and were delighted to spot a Malabar Giant Squirrel leaping gracefully between the branches. Experiences like these are what truly define a forest stay in Wayanad—they are unplanned, authentic, and impossible to recreate in a city resort.
