Among the many lunch homes located in different parts of Kerala, some attract us with the quality of food, while some others lure us with pocket-friendly food. Karthika Mess House located at Elathur Kozhikode has both these qualities with yet another specialty. It is run by a ninety year old mother and her eight daughters. This Mess is all about female power and good food.
Karthika Mess House serves typical Kerala meals complete with pickle, Papadam, and a host of other curries. A standard meal will cost you only Rs.40. You can buy fish fries by paying an additional cost, which will depend on the type of fish. But you wonβt get any other non-vegetarian items like chicken or mutton. As they buy fish from the nearby harbor on a daily basis, you will get the taste of fresh fish. This is a lunch home, and you will get only meals.
Karthika Mess House functions from a home. This is not a proper restaurant, but a small eatery with ordinary tables and chairs arranged in front of the home. Although the place is small, there is no compromise on cleanliness. Meals are served on banana leaves, in the traditional manner. If you wish to have a simple homely meal, this is a place where you can go. The Mess House is popular in the locality, and so, it becomes crowded by 12:30 PM. Though the place has no dedicated parking space, you will find a place to park your vehicle nearby.
