Mouthwatering Yummy Meals and Fish Curry from Hotel Damodara in Thuravoor

People have always had a history of travelling from one location to another to make their livelihood. In many of these instances, we wouldn’t be able to take any food items with us to have on our way. In fact, we would be counting on some restaurants or hotels for food. But how many of us feel truly satisfied with the quality and the taste of food items we have on our travel? Hotel Damodara in Thuravoor is one such rare breed of eatery from which we can get delicious as well as quality dishes in the midst of our journey. The restaurant is located in a place called Thuravoor by the side of the national highway on the way from Ernakulam to Alappuzha.

We reached the hotel at 10 am in the morning and had Dosa and chutney for breakfast. There were a variety of breakfast dishes available for us to choose from and some of these were Dosa, Idli, Idiyappam and Puttu. As it was quite late for our morning meal, Sambar was finished and I had to go for Egg curry as an alternative to be had with Dosa. Apart from coconut chutney, the breakfast was served with chilli chutney which had really done a great job of enhancing the flavour. The food was really tasty and towards the end, we had a glass of hot steaming tea which again was amazing. Breakfast was merely a starter as this restaurant is quite famous for its lunch, we decided to stay back for having the mouthwatering fish curry meals at noon.

Our vlog at Hotel Damodara in Thuravoor

As I was having breakfast, I met a guy called Riyaaz who was on his way towards Ernakulam. He has been a frequent visitor to this food spot and has given great reviews about the place. I was informed of this restaurant by many people in the past and as I came to know about the taste of the food items served through this food spot, I thought I should have visited this restaurant much earlier. We were given permission to have a look at the kitchen and we saw rice being cooked on a large vessel over a firewood stove.

We have also seen the preparation of one of the signature recipes called Pulissery and Biji was in charge of making this delicious dish. She has explained to me how it’s been made. We have been quite familiar with the use of coconut for making this dish and it took me by surprise to know that this Pulissery preparation doesn’t involve the use of coconut. In fact, thick curd is battered to get loose and it’s then sauteed with curry leaves, mustard seeds and turmeric powder to form the special Pulissery dish.

Fish has been fried in coconut oil. Tilapia, Natholi (Anchovy), Mathi (Sardines) and Ayala (Mackerel) were some of the fish varieties used for frying. Two ladies by the name of Tulsi and Bhanumati were busy with the task of fish frying. Bhanumati was also in charge of cooking the rice and she was seen moving the boiled rice from the base pan to another vessel using a stainer spatula. Poomeen or milkfish curry has been made ready in another pan and Beef curry were also been in the process of preparation.

Rice has been served on banana leaves along with Sambar, Ivy gourd recipe, Pumpkin Pachadi and pickle. I have ordered a couple of fish recipes like Tilapia fry and Poomeen curry. Fried Tilapia is quite large in size and the meat was really soft. The masala used in the dish has really made it delicious to have it with boiled rice. Even the soft meat of the fish has caught the flavour of black pepper used in the masala and it enhanced the flavour.

I have also tried out the buttermilk and the special Pulissery recipe. Both were really delicious and were awesome to have with rice. The thickness was another feature of these recipes which really caught my attention. Poomeen or Milkfish curry was also so nice to be had with rice and it made me difficult to come up with the best recipe of this restaurant. In fact, all the dishes were really good and tasty. Hotel Damodara in Thuravoor would surely be a superb choice for customers to have delicious fish curry meals. If you are on your way along the national highway between Ernakulam and Alappuzha, you won’t have to look anywhere else for fish curry meals as Hotel Damodara in Thuravoor would be an amazing option to have. Even though there were not enough designated spaces provided for parking, we can find the parking space along the roadside.
