Many of us would have thought of a perfect beachside for us to have the tranquillity to walk across the soothing tides, basking in the evening colourful sunlight. At least for few times, we would have visited some beaches in our lifetime to enjoy the calming breeze from the sea. The Payyambalam beach in Kannur is exactly the kind of seashore that we would have dreamed about. Even though I have made visits to many of the food spots in Kannur, the street food vendors in Payyambalam Beach are something quite distinct. We can have our food relishing the serene atmosphere of the beach side. Virgin Papa in Kannur is a food truck by the side of the Payyambalam beach serving some of the most fascinating Western delicacies.
We reached the beach by evening 4 pm and the temperature has not quite come down with the sun still having an effect. But if we choose to get to the beach by 5.30 pm in the evening, it would prove to be ideal as the temperature would drop and we could relish the soothing breeze. There exists a magnificent walkway along the beach and we could choose to have a walk taking in the beautiful view of the seashore. On the way to the beachside, we saw numerous street vendors selling some of the items like pickles, snacks, juices and fruits. But I choose this opportunity to taste some of the very unique dishes from a food truck by the name Virgin Papa which is parked just opposite the road across the seashore. Virgin Papa is painted fully in attractive red colour demanding the attention of the people walking through the beachside.
When I came to the food truck, I had the notion that we would get fried meat. But to my surprise, meat has already been made into different sauce varieties. French fries are the main ingredient and according to our order, they would add the sauce varieties for the taste and flavour. I was quite intrigued by the names of the recipes and some of them are Amsterdam Baby, Beef Bomb, Real Bite etc. As the name suggests, Beef Bomb was a dish which contains beef and the rest of the recipes were all made of chicken. I choose to have the recipe by the name Amsterdam Baby and it was amazing. The dish was served in folded paper foil and a kind of creamy sauce made of chicken pieces formed a layer over the french fries. Sliced Jalapeno pieces were also sprinkled over the top for an improved flavour.
The shop is located in front of a football turf and some chairs have been arranged on one side of the shop for the customers to have a seat. When I was making my order, I have seen people enjoying their food by the side of the shop. French fries are made by frying potato pieces twice in oil and the salt sprinkled over the fries gives them the taste. All the dishes served through this shop have French fries as the base and the use of different sauces gives them distinct and attractive flavours. Virgin Papa in Kannur Payyambalam Beach is a unique eatery which looks to be an attractive spot for all the visitors to the beach.
