Have you ever had a thought in your mind to spend some time away from all your busy life? To be with your loved ones to enjoy the mystic beauty of the sunset. Yes, Swargam restaurant in Kochi is exactly famous for its calm and quiet ambience on the backdrop of backwaters. Swargam is the Malayalam word for heaven. It literally personifies a place which gives you a feeling that you would be close to heaven. Away from the hectic life of Kochi, Swargam restaurant provides a soothing atmosphere blessed with the beautiful sight of the sunset. The food spot is exactly located at a place called Kumbalam and in order for us to get to the spot, we would have to pass through a narrow road.
Swargam restaurant is also famous for some unique dishes which you would have not tasted in your life. Swargam chicken, Neymeen Manga Massala and Kanthari Neymeen are some of the few unique recipes which you could enjoy. It can be said with utmost confidence that this place looks super for spending some quality time in the evening. Out of so many dishes worth trying, we have gone for Kallappam, Maniputtu and Neypathiri. Along with this, we have ordered the famous Swargam Chicken, a delicious Chemmeen (Shrimps) Masala and Neymeen (Spanish mackerel) Manga Massala.
Swargam Chicken has tiny shreds of masala on top along with chopped coriander leaves and sliced lemon. Chicken pieces are small when compared to other recipes and it has a light spicy flavour. The presence of sauteed onion plays its part in enhancing the flavour. The delicious Swargam Chicken combined really well with Appam and Pathiri.
There was a slight confusion that led them to bring in Neymeen Mango Massala in place of Kanthari Neymeen. The presence of mango gives Neymeen Masala a sour flavour. I felt it was more suitable for rice. Later when we ordered Kanthari Neymeen, my friend Abhilash shared great reviews on the dish after having it with Maniputtu. It has a light greenish tint, and the taste of Kanthari (Birdβs eye chilli) and coconut milk make this dish delicious.
Apparently, the restaurant gets full by evening 6 pm and if you are coming from far away places, it would be advisable to prebook the table in advance. We have used an app called Dineout to reserve a table for us. There were people who came in with their friends and family spending time by side of the backwaters, just enjoying the natural beauty of the colourful sky painted by the withdrawing sun. We have some of the followers of food and travel who came and talked to us and it was a nice experience.
