Sree Krishna Hotel Karunagapally for Delectable Seafood Dishes

Famous for delicious seafood meals in Karunagapally in Kollam!! We are at Sree Krishna Hotel Karunagapally!!

Kerala is one of the coastal states in India which is quite well known for its seafood wealth. Seafood delicacies have always been prominent across the state. In fact, we can find numerous restaurants all across the region that serve different varieties of seafood preparations. On our journey from Kollam after a mindblowing Kayaking expedition in the morning, we came to Karunagappally to have our lunch. That’s when we came to know one of the most historic restaurants in Karunagapally by the name Sree Krishna Hotel famous for seafood delicacies. Apparently, the food spot has started its operations way back in 1920 even before our country attained its independence.

The Sree Krishna Hotel board is visible by the side of the main road. We would have to walk through a narrow alley to get to the restaurant. Lunch is served in a traditional manner where the food is laid on fresh green banana leaves. Delicious lentil curry along with a series of vegetable dishes was provided along with Kerala rice for lunch. As this restaurant is famed for its seafood dishes, I have bought a few recipes like Vatta curry, Prawns roast, Natholi Peera (Anchovies) and Ayala fry (Mackerel). Although I had made no plans to order the Prawns recipe for the day, seeing the perfectly roasted Prawns dish with thick gravy changed my mind. The Koonthal roast (Squid) was ordered for my friend Abhilash who happens to be a big fan of the dish. One of the main attractions of this restaurant is another seafood dish called Nanmeen Mappas and unfortunately for us, it was not available for the day.

The owner is at the cash counter and his grandmother back in the day has started the restaurant. She used to serve food which was made in her home and she was even called by the name Choramma. The shop has changed its location a few times and finally came to this building. Kerala rice tastes really well with the Parippu (lentil) curry and it’s mixed with pappad to have a phenomenal flavour. Natholi Peera (Anchovies) recipe made using small fish variety and grated coconut mixture has a delicious flavour and can be had without any fear of fish bones as it’s too small to cause any harm. The food spot had two fish curry varieties and we have gone for Vatta curry with grounded coconut. Tapioca is served to be had with the fish curry and it was awesome.

Of all the seafood recipes I had from this restaurant, Prawns roast is the one I liked the most. The thick gravy mixed with rice gives the feeling as if no other recipes are even required to have the rice, such was the taste of this dish. Since the restaurant is close to the road, it’s easily accessible for the customers. If you happen to come to Karunagapally, Sree Krishna Hotel would prove to be a very good choice to have delicious seafood meals.
