Soofi Mandi Kozhikode – enjoy mandi in a vintage ambience!

Mandi is an Arabic rice preparation which is quite popular with the foodies of Kerala. Restaurants in Kerala have modified this Arabic dish to suit the palettes of the Malayali crowd. Here we find spicy and plain versions of it.  Soofi Mandi in Kozhikode is a popular eatery to taste the Arabic dish, Mandi. Menu at Soofi Mandi is not limited to Mandi. They serve Arabic dishes such as Madhoot and Al Faham, and Indian breads such as Naan. For a dessert, you can relish on Kunafa.

Both Madhoot and Mandi are Arabic preparations with rice as the base. In Mandi, rice is cooked along with vegetables and spices, and the meat is grilled over it. The most special aspect about Mandi is that cooking happens in a pit or ‘Kuzhi’. This cooking process has given it the name Kuzhimandi as well. On the other hand, in Madhoot we get the rice and meat cooked together. Madhoot is comparatively more flavorsome than Mandi. The Mandi that we get in Soofi Mandi Kozhikode is not the spicy version. They serve plain and less spicy Mandi along with mayonnaise, Salatha (tomato chutney), and salad.  Food here is tasty. As a perfect end to the delicious food, they serve honey lemon tea after meals.

Soofi Mandi has three outlets in Kerala which are at Kozhikode, Ernakulam and Thrissur. The outlet in Kozhikode is the most recent one. They have branches outside Kerala as well. Their Kozhikode outlet has a wonderful ambiance. It is located close to the Kozhikode beach, but it does not have a beachfront view. The building that houses the restaurant is a traditional Kerala home which they converted into a chic restaurant. Interiors of the restaurant are spic and span, and so, this is an ideal place for a family eat-out. There are washroom facilities, as well as parking facilities for four wheelers. If you go during peak lunch hours, you may find the place crowded.
