Simple Kerala Style Soda Buttermilk or Soda Sambharam!

In Kerala, there is a simple and quenching version of buttermilk – sambharam (moru soda). During the tropical summers of Kerala, sambharam helps us to cool down the body. This refreshing and healthy summer drink is made with yogurt, water, shallots, green chilies, ginger, curry leaves, coriander leaves, and salt.

Soda Sambharam Recipe – Soda Buttermilk Recipe

Ingredients

  • Curd or yogurt: 1 cup
  • Soda or Water: 1.5 cups
  • Green chillies: 1 – 2 nos
  • Shallots: 3 – 4 nos
  • Ginger: 1 small piece
  • Curry leaves: 1 strand
  • Coriander leaves: 1 small strand (optional)
  • Salt to taste

Method

Step 1: Crush shallots, ginger, chillies, and curry leaves

Step 2: Blend yogurt. You can either use a traditional churner or a blender.

Step 3: Add crushed ingredients to the blended mix; add salt to your taste; blend it again and adjust the consistency by adding soda or water.

Step 3: Add some coriander leaves, mix it well, and serve.
