As you take a turn from High Court junction onto Mathai Manjooran Road in Ernakulam, you can’t help but notice this tiny shack-like shop. The aroma of fish fried in varieties of masala wafting out from this place will definitely make you feel hungry. This tiny restaurant which does not even have a name board or a banner is the famous Chala kada in Ernakulam, named after their specialty item chala (sardine) fry.
Chala Kada is a name bestowed upon the shop by its loyal customers. This is a common man’s shop, and there is nothing fancy about the shop. The restaurant has a small dining space with modest arrangements. Apart from the Chala fish for which they are popular, they serve other fish varieties too. A regular meal will cost you Rs.60. For an additional Rs.60, you will get 3 pieces of Chala fry. So for a total of Rs.120, you get a sumptuous meal with fish fry. Other items are also quite affordable. They also serve breakfast items such as kappa, Porotta, Dosha, Idli, Appam, Muttakkari etc., and start their service as early as 7 a.m.
Chala Kada Ernakulam has been in business for about 30 years now. They are open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on all days. Lunch hours are usually crowded, owing to its location and affordability. Parcel facility is also available if you want to get away from the crowd. There are no parking facilities near the restaurant.

There is only one review on Google for Chala kada, at time of writing this. But of course, such shops become famous by word of mouth.
