Dosa is one of the most famous breakfast items not just in South India, but all over India. There are very few people who can resist a hot and crispy ghee Dosa in the morning. Over time, Dosa has evolved into many new forms. Pai Dosa, one of the most famous Dosa outlets in Ernakulam, has definitely played a role in modifying this traditional snack. 36 Pai Dosa Elamkulam is one of the 3 outlets that they run in Ernakulam city.
Pai Dosa is a family owned business, which started functioning 30 years back. Owners are Konkani Brahmins. It was a Thattukada in the early days. Good quality food helped them to prosper, and today they have a flourishing business with three branches, one each in MG Road, Elamkulam, and Edappally. ‘36’ is their trademark. This does not mean that they make only 36 varieties of Dosa. In fact, you will find a total of 186 varieties of Dosas at Pai Dosa.
Dosa varieties at Pai Dosa have unique names. Some of them have interesting stories to tell. Whenever a child is born in the family, they name a Dosa after him or her! Manickam Dosa is a Dosa named after the present owner’s father. Salt and Pepper Dosa was invented during the release of the Malayalam movie, Salt and Pepper. Amby Dosa got its name from one of their regular customers, Ambareesh. Who knows, you may also get a Dosa in your name!
Dosas served at 36 Pai Dosa Elamkulam are vegetarian, but egg Dosas are an exception. They do not use any other non-vegetarian ingredients. Although Dosa rules the menu, there are other snacks like Vada and Bonda too. Dining area is spacious, and segregated into A/C and non A/C areas. There is no compromise on cleanliness.
