Rekhu is the name of the person who owns this restaurant and hence the name Reghu Chettante Kada. He is in charge of cooking and he is helped by his family every step of the way. Meals will be ready by 11 O’Clock at noon and it’s ideal for us to reach the food spot by noon time. If we are late, the food items will start to deplete by 2.30 in the afternoon.
Meals will be served on Banana leaves and there is a handful of delicious vegetarian preparations available with hot steaming rice. Pavaka curry (Bitter Gourd), Banana and beans curry, Mango curry and rose apple pickle are some of the vegetarian dishes. Pavakka curry is made by adding different sets of coconut milk and it helps to reduce the bitter flavour. As the recipe gets cold, it becomes thick and improves the flavour. Yummy bitter gourd dish combines really well with rice and the masala used in this recipe compliments the taste of bitter gourd pieces. I thought the mango curry would have a really sour taste, but to my surprise, it has only a mildly sour taste and it was good.
Among all the recipes served with rice, the most delicious one was the fish fry curry. Sliced and fried Vatta (trevally fish) pieces are mixed with a medium thick gravy and this imparts an awesome flavour. The use of coconut milk had a big role in providing the yummy flavour. As the fish pieces are fried, it makes them hard and melts in fine with the gravy. If you happen to visit this shop, Fish fry curry would prove to be a must-try dish. Pork roast is another recipe that has a delectable taste. It contains both the fat pieces as well as the pure meat ones.
If you are passing through Chalakudy, this restaurant is quite easy to access. You should have to be slightly careful as the Google map might direct you towards the backside. In fact the shop is accessible through the front and it’s by the side of main road. Parking facilities are available for the customers and hence it would be a nice food spot to try out Meals with Pork and Fish curry.
