Food lovers would find Mangalore more appealing to them as they could try out a wide range of delicious dishes on offer from the western coastal city of Karnataka. Seafood has been a major attraction of this place as being a coastal city has its advantages. Having tried out some of the seafood delicacies from this coastal city, we decided to try out some unique dishes from one of the oldest restaurants in the area. Pereira’s Restaurant in Mangalore which came to the scene way before hundred years is considered to be one of the main restaurants which introduced continental food varieties to Mangalore.
We have made plans in the past to visit this restaurant, but unfortunately, we couldn’t do so because of the Covid pandemic which was causing problems at that time. However now, I was on my way from Kasaragod and met with my friend Martin who happens to be a frequent visitor of this food spot. We decided to get to the restaurant in the evening to try out some of the distinct dishes on show at Pereira’s Restaurant in Mangalore. We have made orders for some of the unique dishes from the food spot like chicken Al fresco, Cheese Naan, Beef ghee roast, Hot garlic pork and Lemon chicken.
I have chosen to go for Cheese Naan and Lemon chicken for starters and it has got quite an intriguing flavour. The light tangy flavour of the yellow-coloured lemon chicken comes with the use of lemon. Chicken pieces looked more tender and it was quite a special dish. Lemon chicken has been the favourite recipe of Martin. He used to order this recipe when he made visits to this restaurant every once in a while.
The beef ghee roast has been a slight disappointment as I haven’t found the flavour I was hoping for. In fact, the taste was quite similar to the Beef Vindaloo recipe according to Martin. Thinly sliced beef pieces were used in this dish. Among the ghee roast varieties I had, I liked the Crab ghee roast the most and it’s followed by Prawns and Chicken variants.
The pork hot garlic recipe was quite fascinating to me. It has got a nice fragrance of garlic and spices used in the recipe. The way meat pieces have been cut into pieces is a speciality of this restaurant. It has got a unique taste when compared to the recipes we normally had from Kerala cuisine. Among all the recipes I have tried from Pereira’s Restaurant in Mangalore, the pork hot garlic recipe was my favourite.
Chicken Al fresco was the last recipe we tasted from the list and it was truly amazing. Chicken breast pieces were used in making this dish and the children would find it more appealing to them as the use of white sauce would make it the favourite for the young ones. People who like white sauce would surely find this dish more attractive. Chicken Al fresco comes with mashed potato and french fries and both were really delicious. Upon our request, they would also serve boiled vegetables to go with this dish and it’s something quite unique as well as tasty.
Pereira’s Restaurant in Mangalore would really be an amazing food spot to have Chicken, beef and pork recipes. If you have made plans to visit Mangalore with your friends and family, this restaurant would prove to be an interesting choice.
