If you are a Biriyani lover who couldn’t say no to delicious Malabari Biriyani? Mehfil Biriyani restaurant in Kochi would surely be on top of your list, as it’s quite famous for authentic and yummy Malabari Biriyani. South India being so popular for different Biriyani varieties is blessed with numerous food spots which serve you lip-smacking Biriyanis. Mehfil restaurant makes use of small rice in Biriyani preparations and it’s served with a pickle and salad. If you are planning to enjoy food from outside on a weekend get-together with friends or family? Malabari Biriyani from Mehfil restaurant would prove to be an amazing choice.
By the time when we got to the restaurant, the cooking was down to its final bits. We were fortunate enough to see the way the Biriyani gets dum-cooked to get a delicious taste and an awesome aroma. The most unique feature of Mehfils Biriyani is the use of fewer masalas and that helps us to enjoy the natural flavour of dum Biriyani rice. Biriyani has always been a favourite of mine. When you think of all the Biriyani varieties, I am a huge fan of Malabari Biriyani. It all varies with people and we cannot say that one Biriyani variety is superior to another. In fact, each of those varieties like Hyderabad Biriyani, Mysore Biriyani, Thalassery biryani, Kolkata Biriyani etc are all special in their own right.
Mehfil Biriyani restaurant offers you a variety of Biriyani options like Mutton, Beef, Chicken and Fish. Except for Fish Biriyani, all of these will be served on all days. Fish Biriyani will be on the menu depending on the availability of Fish. Out of all these options, I choose to have Mutton Biriyani along with fried chicken Kabab and Pineapple mint juice. Another peculiar feature about this Biriyani is that the meat is not fried and they are dum-cooked to get authentic Malabar Biriyani. The taste is quite fascinating and I felt as if the rice melts in my mouth. Along with Biriyani, we would get Beetroot and Dates pickle with a comparatively loose gravy. The sour flavour of vinegar along with beetroot and dates makes it unique.
Apart from Biriyani, the foot spot also has various combos involving Ghee rice with different recipes at affordable rates. All the details about these combos are displayed on the wall and we can choose any of them according to our wishes. They also have yet another special dish called Lassi which tastes really good. We can have plain Punjabi Lassi or in mango flavour. I have gone for a glass of Punjabi Lassi which came with dry fruits on top. It contains thick curd with a deliciously light sweet and sour flavour. After having a cup of Punjabi Lassi, it feels as if it’s a must-try dish of Mehfil. The restaurant is located by the side of Chittoor road in Kochi and is easily accessible to all. Although the food spot is close to the road, parking facilities are available for the customers.
