Macchhi Restaurant in Mangalore – A paradise for Seafood lovers

When we get to Mangalore, Seafood recipes are a must-try from the region. Mangalorean seafood preparations have always been my favourite among the numerous delicacies I have tried out from different places. Macchhi Restaurant in Mangalore is in fact one of the best in the business, serving delicious Mangalorean seafood recipes. This food spot has been suggested by many people and I wasn’t able to check out this eatery during my last visit to Mangalore. As a result, I was determined to get to Macchhi restaurant for my next visit and that made me come to the restaurant to try out some seafood delicacies.

As I took my way inside the kitchen, the guy who is in charge of cooking was very busy with the preparation of fish roes tawa fry. Fish roes were initially boiled with turmeric and then it’s been fried on the tawa along with the masala. There were a few partially fried seafood varieties displayed on the table. The ingredients for preparing some of the recipes like Crab ghee roast and Prawns ghee roast were also on the table, ready to be deployed for making the delicious recipes. The Squid golden fry dish made using the sliced ring pieces of squid was also in preparation for the customers.

Our vlog at Macchhi Restaurant in Mangalore

Macchhi Restaurant operates in a house and the building was transformed into a food spot. Martin who was with me on this visit has been waiting at the dining table, as I was in the kitchen going through the preparations of some of the most famous seafood dishes. I have enquired about the availability of Kanan Rava fry (ladyfish) and Kokum rasam as both were my favourites. Apart from rice, they do have Neer dosa and chappati for meals.

Kokum or rasam was served initially and as we had a glass of kokum, the rest of the food items arrived. We ordered rice for lunch and it was served with some recipes like ladyfish curry, pickle, vegetable curry and Pappad. There were three options available to choose from as gravy to be mixed with rice, those were Meen curry (Fish), Parippu curry (lentil) and rasam. Among these, we have gone for fish curry and Dal curry gravy. We have also ordered some special seafood dishes like Ayakoora tawa fry (Kingfish), Meenmutta tawa masala fry (Fish roe), Silverfish rava fry and Prawns ghee roast. In Mangalorean seafood dishes, the ghee roast preparations were the ones I liked the most. In fact, different varieties of ghee roast recipes are available throughout the restaurants in Mangalore. Prawns ghee roast served in Macchhi Restaurant was really delicious and the taste of ghee really combines well with the masala used in this preparation.

When we came to Mangalore, we booked our stay in Dharmannan’s apartment near the beach. If you are planning for a visit to Mangalore along with your family, these apartments by the beach side would prove to be a really good choice. The facilities provided in these apartments are quite superb. In fact, they can be compared with three-star or four-star hotels and they would not disappoint you for sure.

The Silverfish rava fry from Macchhi restaurant can be had without the fear of any fish bones, as these fish were fried with a coating of rava. It had a crispy nature on the outside due to the presence of rava and the fish meat was really soft inside. We squeezed a lemon over the Ayakoora tawa fry (Kingfish) and the sour taste of lemon juice combined really well with the masalas used in the dish. Thinly sliced Kingfish pieces were used for tawa frying and it was delicious. We also had Ginger Goli soda and Buttermilk towards the end after the seafood meals for a change of flavour.

Macchhi Restaurant in Mangalore would surely be a great place to experience various seafood preparations. If you have made plans to visit Mangalore with your family or friends, this food spot would surely be a great option to try out some seafood dishes from Mangalorean cuisine.
