Stupendous LAKSEM Farmstay in Pollachi and Delicious Homemade Nattukozhi Biriyani

All of us would have thought of a place to have our vacation with our family or friends away from all the busy commitments of work. To spend a weekend in a place where we could see the greenery and helps us enjoy the beauty of nature. Laksem Farmstay in Pollachi is exactly the kind of place which gives you a calm and soothing atmosphere in the midst of 50 acres of coconut farm. The eco-friendly cottages where we would be staying are built in Karaikudi style using mud and stone. In fact, there are only three cottages and all of these are constructed in the same manner.

We reached the farmhouse by late evening on the way from Bangalore to Valpparai and had made plans to spend some time in this beautiful place. The next morning began with a cup of tea followed by a traditional Tamil Nadu breakfast of Idli, Pongal, Sambar and Chutney. The food is prepared by the native people living nearby and upon giving our preferences, they would make you both vegetarian as well as non-vegetarian dishes. There was a slight drizzle which made us stay indoors and the food was so impressive, the taste was awesome. The Pongal felt amazing with yummy gram dal chutney and I would recommend you all try out the Tamil Nadu Pongal at least once in your lifetime.

The cottage rooms are very well maintained and it gives a unique feeling to the visitors. Each cottage has a separate building adjacent to it for dining and it’s made of stones. The dining area has a couple of cane chairs for the guests. If you are planning to visit the place along with the family, the children have a play area near the cottages and they would love the rides available. There is also a swimming tank nearby where you could enjoy swimming.

Breakfast in Pollachi

We had our breakfast and stayed indoors, waiting for the slight drizzle to come to an end. Since there were no signs of stopping the rain, we decided to go out and explore the farm. They have a cattle shed on the farm and we could see cattle grazing through the lush green cover along the coconut grove. We have also seen a small bullock cart on the farm and it’s been quite fascinating to see such things which were quite prominent back in the day when motorcars were not common. Also, there is a water tank close by and we could get an ariel view of the trees around from the roof. Coconut trees were seen everywhere and there exist a few other trees like Mango and Palm among them.

A farm stay in Pollachi

We have gone for a tractor drive through the coconut farm and it was quite a unique experience. We had plans to get tender coconut, but unfortunately for us, the rain made it impossible for them to climb the trees. As we move forward, we saw a big pond and apparently, they have fish in the pond. The main fish variety is Tilopia and if we are interested we could do fishing from the pond. Later when we came back towards the cottage, we thought of checking out the swimming tank and it was awesome. The tank was empty when we got there and the water was pumped in to get it filled. I spend some time swimming in the tank and came back to the cottage to have the famous Nattukozhi Biriyani.

There was tasty homemade Nattukozhi Biriyani for lunch back at the cottage. Swimming really made me hungry and the Tamil Nadu style Nattukozhi Biriyani is made of small biriyani rice. It has resemblances as that of the Rawther Biriyani and it’s made of country chicken. The rice and the meat are cooked together to get this delicious biriyani and we have ordered 1kg of country chicken in making this dish. Nattukozhi Biriyani is served with salad and Nattukozhi Kolambu (chicken curry). Since we have ordered 1kg of country chicken, half a kg has been used in making the biriyani and the rest is used in Nattukozhi Kolambu. Having delicious and hot biriyani in the midst of cold rainy weather is something to savour. The masala used in this biriyani is what’s giving it the real taste and it has a slightly spicy flavour.

All of us would enjoy the natural greenery of the farm. LAKSEM Farmstay would give you a perfect getaway weekend and it would be a fantastic farm to enjoy with your family or friends.
