Childhood days provide us with some of the most sacred moments of our life. These scenarios or events would be recollected in our mind when we associate with any such events similar to the ones we had in our early days. The summer vacations in Kerala usually coincide with the prosperous Mango season. Children used to have different varieties of ripe mangoes which were collected from beneath the tall Mango trees. Evenings usually see pre-monsoon rains which were accompanied by lightning and moderate winds in the month of April and May. This causes ripe mangoes to fall from these big trees and we used to collect these by the next day morning. Delicious dishes using these ripe mangoes were so common in those days in our homes. Pazhamanga Pulissery recipe from Ila Restaurant in Aluva has really taken me back towards memory lane.
Ila restaurant serves Pazhamanga Pulissery recipe for meals and it will be prepared according to the availability of ripe mangoes. The sweetness of ripe mangoes and the slightly sour flavour of the curd used in the dish makes it one of the most sought-after dishes of Kerala cuisine. It comes with seeds of ripe mangoes and we can take in the fleshy part of the mangoes which remains with these seeds. Apart from this dish, Ila restaurant in Aluva has some of the preparations like Kappa Biriyani, Nool Parotta, Nirvana and Chicken Perattu. They also have other non-vegetarian recipes like beef curry and beef fry on the menu for the customers.
We choose this restaurant to have Kappa (tapioca) Biriyani and it was slightly different from the authentic dish which is common in the Kottayam district of Kerala. Normally it’s prepared using beef pieces which contain a fair share of bones, especially the ones served during wedding functions. But to my surprise, Kappa biriyani from Ila restaurant doesn’t have any bones, it had only fleshy beef pieces and it was unique. I prefer to have Kappa biriyani with traditional lemon pickle recipes for taste and hence I have enquired about the same to be had with the biriyani. Even though all the recipes were served hot, we ate the dishes after the shoot and that made it lose all the heat.
Meanwhile, my friend Hashmi has gone for Appam and Nirvana dish, he gave good reviews about the recipe. I have had Nirvana in the past from Chef Pillai, one of the very famous chefs who was known for his unique and delicious dishes. We both had Nool Parotta and beef curry and it was really nice. Hashmi hasn’t had Chicken Perattu before in his life and this is a dish which is common to the Trivandrum region. He had a unique experience and the beef fry with its fair share of chopped coconut pieces has also been a tasty dish.
Towards the end, we ordered Mohabathinte chaya (black tea) which is made of quite a few spices. Having a hot cup of tea after spicy recipes would really enhance the flavour. Ila Restaurant in Aluva is located by the side of the road and hence it is easily accessible for all of us. The restaurant will remain closed on Sundays.
