Ghee Roastery in Calicut for Mangalore Food – Yummy Crab Ghee Roast!

Are you craving for Mangalore style crab ghee roast, prawns green roast, or fish tawa fry? If yes, Ghee Roastery in Calicut is a good choice for Mangalorian delicacies in Kozhikode. Located close to the beach in Kozhikode, Ghee Roastery serves seafood delicacies and chicken dishes with chapathi, neer dosa, and rice varieties.

We were traveling to Kasargod and decided to stay overnight in Calicut (Kozhikode). While in Calicut, my friend Shabeer spoke to me about this restaurant in the city that serves Mangalore food varieties including chicken ghee roast and other seafood ghee roasts. I decided to go with crab ghee roast, prawns green roast, chicken pulimoonchi, and fish rava fry with neer dosa.

When I recall my experiences in Mangalore with Martin, I cherish the flavors of seafood dishes that we enjoyed in some of the Mangalore based restaurants including Machali Restaurant Mangalore. In Machali, I loved the taste of crab ghee roast without shell (meat only). Here at Ghee Roastery, they do not serve shell-less crab ghee roast, but they do have the normal crab ghee roast. In Ghee Roastery, I loved the green roast more than the ghee roast. Prawns green roast in green masala with the flavor of curry leaves and ghee (clarified butter) was a highlight among the items that we tried there that night.

The restaurant is slightly inward from the main street besides the beach and they have limited parking facilities. It has got a decent ambience and the dining space was maintained well. While we were in Ghee Roastery, there were a couple of families enjoying their meal.

I would recommend this restaurant for Mangalore style delicacies to try in Calicut. However, you must note that Mangalore delicacies are unique and loosely related to Kerala flavors. The restaurant has a seating capacity of 25 – 30 seats. Price is slightly higher than the homebased seafood restaurants in Calicut.
