Have you been to Mysore?, and if you have, you would have surely made your way to Mysore Palace. Chammundi hills in the east face this marvellous construction in the middle of the city. Now, let me introduce you to a place in Mysore famous for its Mysorean seafood cuisine, Fresh Catch Seafood Restaurant. It’s a well-managed food spot with a good enough ambience to have your food. We have been given permission to visit the restaurant kitchen. It is quite fascinating to see the preparations of some of the recipes like Lady Fish Rava fry, Mangalorean Fish Pulimoonji, Prawns Ghee Roast and Fish Tawa Roast.
Even though I have been to Mysore Palace many times in the past, witnessing the beautiful palace at night, fully illuminated with lights gives you a fantastic feeling. Fresh Catch Seafood Restaurant also has a seafood shop nearby. To my surprise, there is a whole collection of seafood varieties on display. You can buy the fish of your choice for your home. I remember the last time when I visited Mysore. We had the chance to taste a variety of Mysorean dishes like Mylari Dosa and Hanumanth Pulao. We also had a great experience with Pujari restaurant in Mysore. Another very famous restaurant known for its Mysorean seafood dishes.
I started my lunch with Kanthari Fish fry and Avoli red fry. I find the preparation of Prawns Ghee Roast quite fascinating as it was initially cooked with a fair share of Masala and water. By the time it’s ready for serving, the Prawns Ghee Roast is made to form a thick gravy. Fish Mango curry is also an interesting choice, the use of green mango gives it a sour taste, and it’s what makes this recipe unique. Of all the seafood dishes I ordered, my choice was Lady Fish Rava Fry and Kanthari fish curry. The use of rava gives the former a crispy feel on the outside, and the soft meat of Ladyfish imparts softness inside. Kantari Fish curry has a fair share of coconut slices. The use of coconut milk combines well with the spiciness of Kantari (Birds eye Chilie) and that makes it delicious with rice.
Apparently, the restaurant will see a rush from noon 1.30 pm and we reached the restaurant early by 12 pm. Parking facilities are limited and you would have to park your vehicle by the roadside. Many families are coming to the food spot and that shows the acceptance of this restaurant in the area. The restaurant has an overall rating of 4.3 from 2939 reviews on Google.
