Ramzan is the holy month of Muslims when families come together to enjoy numerous dishes towards the end of the day after their whole day of fasting called Ifthar. Each day, homes would have several recipes prepared for their family to break the fast by late evening. Ifthar recipes have always been a special feeling for the kids as they get to taste unique dishes which were prepared during this holy month. Delicious Egg Kebab and chutney recipe would be one such unique dish to be tried out in the month of Ramzan or Ramadan.
The distinctive way of making this dish would really fascinate you and would surely make it one of the favourites of your loved ones. I came to know about this tasty dish when I visited Shamlattha and her family one day for Iftar and she explained the way it’s been prepared. Egg Kebab and Chutney Recipe
Ingredients for Egg Kebab:
- Eggs – 3 Numbers (Boiled and each one sliced into halves)
- Egg – 1 Number (Mashed in a bowl)
- Bread crumbs – A small bowl
- Potato – 2 Numbers (Big size)
- Onion – 2 medium-sized (Chopped to fine pieces)
- Green chillies – 2 Numbers (Medium-sized)
- Garlic – 5 to 6 medium-sized cloves
- Ginger – A small piece
- Turmeric powder – Quarter teaspoon (1/4 tsp)
- Chilli powder – Half teaspoon
- Coriander powder – Half teaspoon
- Pepper powder – Quarter teaspoon (1/4 tsp)
- Garam masala powder – Half teaspoon
- Rusk powder – Half Cup
- All-purpose flour – 2 Tablespoon
- Salt for the taste
- Cooking oil for frying
Ingredients for Chutney:
- Grated Coconut – Half cup
- Green chilli – 2 Numbers (Medium-sized)
- Ginger – A small piece
- Coriander leaves – 2 Tablespoon
- Mint leaves – 1/5 Tablespoon
- Curry leaves – 10 to 12 Numbers
- Lemon – A half portion
- Salt for the taste
Method of making the Chutney:
Step 1: Take a grinding mixie jar and wash it in running water.
Step 2: Add the ingredients like grated coconut, green chillies, ginger, coriander leaves, Mint leaves, and curry leaves.
Step 3: Sprinkle some salt for the taste and grind it to form a chutney. Transfer it to a bowl.
Step 4: Squeeze the lemon and mix it thoroughly with a spoon. Keep it aside.
Method of making Egg Kebab and Chutney dish:
Step 1: Wash the potatoes really well and keep them in a cooker along with some water for cooking.
Step 2: Once the potatoes are cooked, remove the skin and mash it well.
Step 3: Place a cooking pan over the flame and when it’s heated, pour in some oil.
Step 4: Add the sliced onion pieces and saute them for some time to get a translucent texture.
Step 5: Take a mixie grinding jar and add the ingredients like green chillies, garlic, ginger, and curry leaves. Crush these into a raw masala mixture.
Step 6: When the onion pieces start to change their colour, add the crushed masala mixture.
Step 7: Saute it for a few minutes and wait for the masala to lose its raw flavour.
Step 8: When it’s ready, add the turmeric powder, coriander powder, chilli powder and pepper powder. Also, add the Garam masala and saute it for some time.
Step 9: As the spice powders lose their raw flavour, add the mashed potato and saute it well. Use a spatula in mixing the ingredients.
Step 10: Add some salt for the taste and mix it thoroughly. Now add some coriander leaves and Putina leaves for taste. Mix it well with a spatula and when it’s sauteed well, keep it aside.
Step 11: When the potato mixture is cooled and ready. Take a lemon-sized piece of mashed potato mixture and spread it on your palm.
Step 12: Place one egg piece in the middle of this flattened potato mixture and add a teaspoon of chutney over the egg.
Step 13: Now bring the sides of this flattened potato mixture on your palm and wrap it over the egg and chutney.
Step 14: Slowly move the content and make it into an oval shape.
Step 15: Now dip these in mashed egg. Place it over the breadcrumbs as the surface gets fully covered by breadcrumbs
Step 16: Now fry it in heated oil to get the delicious Egg Kebab with chutney.
Egg Kebab and Chutney dish can also be made as an evening snack with a hot cup of coffee or tea. It can also be served to the guest on occasions when relatives or friends make a visit to your home. This delicious dish would surely be the new favourite for mothers as it will be liked by young ones who normally chose to avoid eggs due to the taste.
