Mouthwatering Kappa, Fish Curry and Cutla Fish Fry from Attutheeram in Netta

Netta is a beautiful place in Trivandrum district close to the state of Tamil Nadu. We have been to this amazing place before, but we have come to Netta once again to try out some delicious recipes from the area. Attutheeram in Netta is one of a restaurant by the side of the road famous for serving delicious Kappa (Tapioca) with mindblowing fish fry, traditional chicken recipes and Culta fish fry. As we reached the food spot, the lady who is in charge of the cooking was busy with the preparation of fish head curry. We could see the catchment area of the dam behind the restaurant. Being close to the water source makes it easy for them to receive freshwater fish like Cutla, Rohu and Mrigal caught from the river for cooking. Fish varieties tend to vary each day according to their availability.

Freshwater fish varieties have soft meat and hence they are usually used for frying. The head is the only portion in these fishes with the required stiffness to make the fish curry recipe. That’s the reason why fish head curry has been in prominence in these parts of the world. The last time when we visited the place, we have been to Ammachi’s Shop and had lip-smacking Kerala meals with fish curry. We tasted the fish head curry from that shop and it was spectacular. Ever since the dam came into place in the area, Netta has been gaining popularity for getting delicious freshwater fish dishes with Kappa (Tapioca) and Meals.

The scenic beauty of the place is quite fascinating for the visitors. It’s amazing to view the catchment area of the dam with thick vegetation surrounding the water source. The ripple movement of the water towards its shores, the roads going along its sides and the lush green cover all around would give an amazing photographic view. Pure white cotton clouds moving ever so slowly in the blue sky and rich green mountains rising from the surface forms the backdrop of the beautiful view of the dam. Walking along the rubber plantations by the side of the river is yet another interesting aspect of the visit to Netta.

Firewood is being used for cooking. Fish curry and rice were placed over two adjacent hearths for cooking. Although the traditional tapioca dish was cooked, it is kept aside to be mixed with the grated coconut mixture for flavour. The lady who is in charge of the cooking was busy marinating the fish pieces for frying. It was quite fascinating to know that the fish fries will be prepared according to the order. There were a few orders for Tilapia fry and along with that we have also made our order for Tilapia and Catla. The marinated fish varieties were fried in pure coconut oil. We have used this time to enquire with the customers who were having a good time enjoying their food at the dining area. I made enquiries with children who were having some fish fries and tapioca. They liked the tapioca and fish curry a lot. Have also come up with great reviews about the chutney served along with the tapioca.

We have made orders for tapioca and fish fry. Tapioca was served with fish curry gravy and it was truly delicious. We have chosen fish fries like Tilapia, Catla and Rohu. Crushed garlic and ginger were sprinkled over the fish varieties has really enhanced the flavour. The chutney was truly amazing and the use of Kanthari or Bird’s Eye chilli made it so appealing to all. The tasty soft meat of freshwater fish fries has been special. It started raining while we were having our food. The sound of raindrops falling onto the metallic roofing sheets has resulted in a loud sound. Of all the recipes we have tried, the chutney was the real highlight. Attutheeram in Netta would surely be an attractive restaurant to have a taste of traditional tapioca dishes with yummy freshwater fish recipes.
