We all would have encountered some instances in life where we accidentally come across some amazing crown jewels which were not in our plans. We were returning to Trivandrum from a nearby place and we stopped at Bismi Hotel in Balaramapuram for having some food. In fact, it was a spontaneous decision and we haven’t had any plans to visit this place. The restaurant is known to be famous for serving different varieties of delicious mutton dishes. It is quite easy to get to this restaurant as it’s located at the main junction of the city. One of my friends Harri is with me and we have ordered some mutton dishes like Mutton curry, Mutton fry and Mutton Perattu or roast recipe.
Since we came to the food spot at an off time, some of the main attractions of the restaurant like the Mutton brain recipe were finished. Along with the mutton dishes I have bought Parotta, Idiyappam and Pathiri. Harri on the other hand has chosen Puttu for dinner. As we were having our food, we have seen many families including their children visiting this food spot for dinner. Traditional banana leaves are used for serving the food and the dining facilities like the table, all look to be maintained in a hygienic manner. It’s been believed that Puttu or steamed rice cake is best to have with some gravy and that made us go with Mutton curry as the combination for the dish.
We have tasted Mutton fry for starters and it felt as if it would be ideal to be had with Chapati. Although the fried mutton pieces were slightly chewy in nature, the taste was quite superb. Soft and smooth Idiyappam was having a delicious flavour with Mutton curry. The rice threads of Idiyappam looked really small and the mutton pieces were cooked soft. The mutton curry had a spicy flavour and was truly amazing to have with Idiyappam. But I had a feeling that it would be even more delicious to be had with hot steaming Puttu. People who love to have spicy food would definitely like this recipe.
I tried Parotta with Mutton Perattu towards the end. Of all the mutton recipes I have tasted from this restaurant, Mutton Perattu is the one I liked the most. It is more suited to Parotta than any other dishes I have tried. The mutton pieces were cooked well and it contains a fair share of fat which again is an attractive quality of this dish. The masala was truly amazing as the sauteed onions give a slightly sweet flavour. The subtle spicy taste of the masala has been truly a match to have with Parotta.
The quantity of all these recipes should have been improved as the amount feels less when compared with other restaurants. They also have Mutton Biriyani served for lunch. Towards the end, we both had a glass of Biriyani tea which was truly amazing. If you are on the lookout for a food spot to have different varieties of mutton recipes in Trivandrum, the Bismi Hotel in Balaramapuram would prove to be a nice choice to have.
