But when you visit this place, keep in mind that Kanji is the specialty here – Choodu Kanji (Hot Congee), Pazhankanji (Fermented Congee), and Payaru Kanji (Green Gram Congee).
More about Kanji Korner Edappally
A small restaurant that is run by a family and their friends. Not a great ambiance that they can be considered even as a mid-range family restaurant. But guys! Do they serve yummy food? No doubt, Kanji is superb. I tried their pazhankanji and payaru kanji – both were tasty and soothing. They may not serve so many varieties of side dishes – just to fit into the budget – but what they serve is good.
Payaru kanji is served hot where kanji is made with rice and green gram. It goes well with pickles and any vegetarian side dishes. However, if you love trying fish fries or omelet with it, you can and you will enjoy it. Pazhankanji, on the other hand, is served cold (not refrigerated, but with its natural coldness). Though I mentioned it as fermented, it just overnight fermented – not fermented to sour. Pazhankanji is mixed with curd, chilies, and shallots, giving it a nice and refreshing flavor. If you add some pickles and have it with some fried fishes or dried fishes… Oh dear, no better meals can replace it.
Well, the budget-friendly part: Choodu Kanji is just Rs. 30.00 (USD 0.41); Pazhankanji costs you Rs. 50.00 (USD 0.68); and Payaru Kanji Rs. 50.00 (USD 0.68). You take any special dishes like omelet or fish fries of your choice it will cost you Rs. 30.00 (USD 0.41).
Location and Ambiance
Kanji Korner Edappally is located near Madam Junction in Edappally. It’s actually a rented house with ample parking space. If you ask me whether it is a family restaurant, I would say YES and MAYBE NOT. YES because the place is clean and neat with a family room. MAYBE NOT, because when people talk about family restaurants they expect a posh ambiance. Here the ambiance is not posh, but clean and decent.
